Patterns in Music: How Linguistic Corpus Analysis Tools Can Be Used to Illuminate Central Aspects of Jazz Improvisation with Dr. Martin Norgaard
Join Associate Professor of Music Education at Georgia State University, Dr. Martin Norgaard, a researcher who studies neuroscience, mathematics, computer science, occupational therapy, and physics to investigate the cognitive processes underlying improvisation and related therapeutic applications.
During the interactive workshop, you will use a free program designed for language analysis to find patterns in jazz solos. Then we will listen to the original recordings of those patterns using another publicly available web interface. Finally, applications in jazz theory and improvisation classes are discussed.
