Session 4 - Theology of Anxiety_Faith-005

Chronic anxiety is caused by striving to possess God's character traits meant for God alone. The modern church's emphasis on being like Christ has led to legalism and anxiety. Sanctification involves dying to self and following Jesus, while God forms us in Christ-likeness. Spiritual disciplines should lead to God's presence and the love of Jesus, not perfection. Chronic anxiety hinders freedom in Christ and is referred to as the false self, flesh, or self. The gospel of anxiety burdens humans to pay or please God, while the gospel of Jesus is that God pays for humans. Dying to self is painful but leads to freedom and peace in Christ. Worship Jesus for his control, perfection, knowledge, presence, and approval. Invite God to examine our lives and help us die to hindrances.
