Special education professionals often face challenges when diagnosing and treating students with communication difficulties in diverse school populations. It can be difficult to determine if these difficulties are due to a disorder or second language influence, leading to overidentification of students with communication difficulties. This lack of clarity in identification and treatment results in growing case loads and limited resources. To address these issues, a certificate course is available that provides 15 hours of videos, therapy materials, reference charts, and an e-book on common disorders. The course offers guidance on therapy strategies, evaluating diverse students, working with interpreters, handling professional situations, improving evaluations, and increasing parent and teacher involvement. Its aim is to empower professionals to confidently refer, evaluate, treat, and dismiss diverse students.
