Session 6 - Differentiation_Work-

Anxiety exists in four spaces: within oneself, between oneself and others, inside others, and between others. Differentiation of self, a tool based on systems theory, helps manage anxiety and lower reactivity. Enmeshment and detachment are opposite extremes of differentiation. Differentiation involves managing reactivity, clarifying vision and values, and aligning them with reality. It takes time and practice. Helpful questions for enmeshment include understanding boundaries and responsibilities. For detachment, shift listening posture to learn rather than defend or fix. Examples of differentiation in media include The Crown, Spotlight, and Ted Lasso. Steps to practice differentiation include noticing anxiety, pausing, locating the source, checking inputs and outputs, and practicing differentiation. Practicing differentiation leads to personal growth and positive changes in the environment.
